Zoo
My gym, a trip to the zoo, and a
haircut.
This Saturday, William had his second official
(paid-for) class at our local My Gym (a kids' gym with exercise classes).
William is just over 3 1/2 years old, and they don't have the age-appropriate
class for him at a time we can attend. A little over a month ago, we tried the
the 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 year olds class, but he was already a little advanced. We
tried out the 4 1/2-5 1/2 year old class (Whiz Kids), and while he's less strong
and less coordinated than his classmates, he follows instruction at least as
well, so we enrolled him in the class and bought a membership. As of his second
class, he loves it. Actually, he loved it from the beginning. He likes the
play and the exercise. The only problem is that it takes him a few minutes to
get started, and he's very shy and tentative in the first 5-10 minutes. Also,
the Whiz Kids class doesn't have parent participation, and he usually wants me
on the play floor with him.
The other
good thing about the My Gym class is that William winds up with a huge appetite
(huge for him, anyway) afterward. The previous Saturday we went to Disneyland
afterward, and this past Saturday, we went to the LA Zoo (our first trip in a
while). Both times, it wasn't hard to get him to eat all of his
lunch.
The zoo was fine. The lions
were copulating again. The new sea lion exhibit was okay. William enjoyed the
walking around and looking. James was okay, too, though we had to carry him
quite a bit, instead of just leaving him in the stroller all
day.
After the zoo, we got William a
haircut. His hair had grown pretty long, getting in his eyes. Unfortunately,
haircuts make him look older; the long hair is really cute on
him.
James is definitely moving around
more on his own -- not crawling, but scooting backwards, rotating, rolling
around.
Karen O. e-mailed me. One of
her kids locked himself out of his room, which uses a regular key lock. I sent
her pointers on how to pick a lock.
