What is Image2Mesh?

Image2Mesh is ElectricImage plugin that creates a mesh model from an Image file. Image2Mesh creates a flat, cylindrical or spherical model where the brightness of the Image pixels control the elevation of the mesh vertices. Image files can be still or animated.

Image2Mesh can use brightness values to displace other models.

The major difference from EI's bump/displacement mapping is that Image2Mesh uses b-splines to interpolate elevation data which results in very smooth surfaces and doesn't require large Image files.
