Less than meets the eye...I didn't expect much from Transformers II. On the
way there, I asked Brian, "You do know that this movie is going to be amazingly
stupid right?" We were going for the robots. And the explosions, don't forget
the explosions.
I was wrong. It was way, way, WAY stupider than I had anticipated. I'd read the reviews, I knew it was targeted right at 12 year old boys (which some might say is exactly my sense of humor.) I knew about the dumb robot fart jokes, and the dumb robot peeing jokes, and the dumb massive robot testicle jokes. I knew that Megan Fox would spend most of the time shoving her bootie at the camera. I knew that Shia LeBeouf would have one line, "Go! Go! Go! Go!" said in rapid-fire succession. (He only has 2 lines in any movie. The other is "No! No! No! No!" said in rapid-fire succession, see "Indiana Jones and the Nursing Home of the Sclerotic Skulls" for example.) But I also knew there would be big cool robots beating the crap out of each other. And explosions, don't forget the explosions. It is a Michael Bay movie, after all. What I didn't expect was the rest of the stupidity. In one scene the humans are searching for a hidden robot in the Smithsonian Air and Space museum. They find him, convince him to help them, then he walks out of the museum through a giant hanger door right into ... Southern California. Hrrrmm? I'm almost positive that the museum is in DC, right? I'm also almost positive that Petra (in Jordan) is not just down the street from Giza (Egypt.) And where is there a giant pine forest in New York City? Seriously, this movie was probably the stupidest movie I have ever seen (and that's saying something. After all, I saw all the Star Wars prequels, and Star Trek V.) But it had pretty s'plosions, and big robots with guns, so that was good. Posted: Mon - July 13, 2009 at 10:44 AM |
