Product Placement...If you've been living under a rock, or perhaps
under a Horta, you might not know that there's a new ultra-flashy neato Star
Trek movie coming out on Friday, complete with an Apple Store on the bridge of
the Enterprise.
Anyway, last night on Fringe, like the new Star Trek movie, also a J.J. Abrams property, they presented a 2 minute preview of the movie. But that wasn't the real product placement. In the show itself, one of the characters (Did he look familiar? That was the guy who gave Kirk and Spock some "tranya" in one of the original series episodes of Star Trek) gave a 5 minute discussion of the plot of the new movie, which happened to fit in exactly with the plot of this episode. In essence, the whole alternate timeline episode was an hour long commercial for the new movie. Oh, and Walter was drinking a Slusho, for one more tie in and we've already seen Oceanic Airlines (from LOST) in Fringe for another tie in. Gotta love the Easter Eggy goodness.
