Theology Matters...Here's an amusing video that pretty much destroys
the theological idea called "Penal Substitutionary Atonement." For those of you
who aren't theologians, there are many theories about
atonement (ie. the notion that Jesus died on the cross to save us from
our sins) such as the ransom theory, the satisfaction theory, the governmental
theory, etc. The penal substitution idea is, I think, one of the more common
ones in Christianity generally, particularly in fundie circles. But, as I said,
this particular theory is pretty silly, and here's a good explanation why that
is so. Enjoy.
