O Tannenbaum...Wie treu sind deine Blätter,
indeed.
When I was a kid, my parents told me all sorts of things that I later found out weren't true. For example, I was told that if I accidentally ate the seeds of an apple or watermelon, that tiny apple trees or watermelon plants would grow in my tummy. Of course eventually I learned that's just silly. Or is it? Yesterday I was reading a news article about a guy in Russia who had terrible chest pains and was coughing up blood. The doctors did an X-Ray and found what looked like a tumor, so they operated and ... get this ... found a 5 cm spruce sprout growing in his lung! Somehow he apparently aspirated a seed and it started growing. Some biologists are skeptical about this story since they say plants need light to grow, but then, what do biologists know about anything? I guess though the pain was excruciating, on the upside, his breath smelled like a Carolina pine forest. Posted: Wed - April 15, 2009 at 03:09 PM |
