Emerald Ash BorerThe Emerald Ash Borer is an
invasive species that's been killing the ash trees in the Great Lakes.
Originally found near Detroit in 2002, it has now been found in Ohio, Indiana,
Illinois, and Ontario. The adult insect doesn't do much damage, but the larvae
crawl around under the bark and girdle the trees. These pictures were taken
just west of Ann Arbor, July 4, 2007 and show some of the damage these critters
are causing. More pics on my flickr
account.
