Ann Arbor Eats...Like most cities, Ann Arbor has its share of
unique bars and eateries that, for one reason or another, tug on the
heartstrings of those who live here, and still tug on the heartstrings of those
who have left: Ashley's, Red Hot Lover's, Blimpy Burger, The Fleetwood, the Old
Town, the Blue Nile, etc.
For some odd reason, Anthony's Gourmet Pizza isn't one of them. If you ask Ann Arborites about pizza, they'll likely tell you all about Cottage Inn, an A2 institution. Sure it's good -- tasty sauce, their toppings aren't cheap dog food like the big chains, and the crust is reasonably quality stuff. But for a real treat, we love Anthony's. This is serious Chicago Deep-Dish pizza. Tons of cheese, a great tomato sauce that's sweet and tastes like it's been simmered all day with plenty of garlic. And the crust is wonderful, light inside, crispy outside, not too thick, not too thin, more than a match for all those toppings. I'm not sure we'd know about Anthony's if there wasn't one near the apartment complex where we used to live. Now they've also got a location that happens to be right on our way home from work! w00t! So, if you ever visit A2, by all means, try Cottage Inn. But if you want to really impress your Ann Arbor hosts, convince them to try Anthony's, they've probably never heard of it.
