Random Munday Reviews...

1) Knights of the Old Republic II, The Sith Lords is cool.

(Note added March 15, 2005: Do not buy this game for X-Box. At least, don't buy it if you want a game that actually works. After playing for a short time, I found bug after bug after bug (that is, when I could actually get the damn thing to run) in this poorly executed game. Do a quick search on the web and you'll see that it isn't just a problem I'm having. Tons of people are reporting major problems with this game (at least the X-Box version of it), in addition to entire portions of it being cut in order to make LucasArts' Christmas deadline. This is not a worthy sequal to KOTOR. If you want to try it out, rent it before blowing $50 on a game that doesn't work. Or, wait a little while. The "pre-played" market is going to be flooded with copies of this piece of crap.)

2) Star Trek, Shattered Universe is not.

3) And now I have a grudge against the people who made, "The Grudge." Wow, this movie was a stinker. The only good part about it that it was amusing to listen to my husband yelling at the TV after about an hour of stupidity.

Here's the plot: Guy kills wife and son in house. Everyone who goes into said house gets killed by dead wife and son (who apparently, have a "grudge." Get it?). Now imagine such a movie, but one in which all the scenes were written on separate index cards, the cards were shuffled, and the movie was shown in that order. Why not show the movie in chronological order, you ask? Yeah, I asked the same thing. There's no reason. Someone saw part of Memento, apparently, and wanted to be cool too.

Sound bad? Well, you've been warned. I won't bother quoting this stupid movie, but I will quote my husband yelling at the woman who was killed and now terrorized poor Sarah Michelle Gellar's character: "For god's sake woman, so you're dead! Move on with it! Just leave people alone. We're tired of you now!"

I thought Sarah Michelle Gellar could take care of herself, but in this movie she's reduced to a pair of boobs in a bad sweater looking all "Elijah Wood" at everything. (However, her boyfriend, whom we see far too little of, is a cutie .... if you like the SNRE type. (SNRE = School of Natural Resources and Environment. The guys with curly dark hair and flannel shirts, loose corduroys, and hiking boots -- you know the type.)

The DVD box says that this is scarier than The Ring. Frankly, it wasn't even scarier than The Hole. (BTW, that last link is NSFW, as if you needed to be warned.)

On a cultural note, I was under the impression that large cities in Japan were fairly crowded. Perhaps it's just another mistaken American idea about a foreign country, but that's what I thought. According to The Grudge, there's only like 5 people in the whole country. Hell, Kansas isn't as deserted as this movie was.

Don't even bother renting it...unless your husband likes to yell at the TV, because that, at least, was amusing.

4) Battlestar Galactica continues to get better each week. This week they demonstrated that they can do humor pretty well, even in the midst of a tense situation...something that I think is really difficult to do. This show has become the last, best hope for SciFi on television, I think. After hearing the really stupid awful dumb idiotic rumors about what they may do to Enterprise in the last episode, I'm glad Star Trek is going away for a while.

5) Lastly, for your amusement, enjoy this article. Reason number 2838 on the list, "Why I won't be moving to Alabama any time soon." I'm pretty sure the yokels down there will be making The Grudge their State Movie. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, "But you live in Michigan, you don't have much room to talk." True, but we're still a blue state. So there.
