We rented The Villiage and watched it Monday night. I've decided that my enjoyment of a film is diminished a lot, if while I'm watching, I'm just waiting for the twist. It's an M. Night Shyamalan movie -- therefore there must be a twist.
I really didn't think this movie was as bad as I'd heard it was. It was diverting, but not really interesting. Unlike The Sixth Sense, it was pretty easy to figure out the twist in this one, but of course I spent the whole time wondering about "the twist" rather than watching the movie. William Hurt playes the same older, wiser Dad kinda guy that he plays a lot (think AI, or the Dune miniseries, or Lost In Space.) I'm not really sure why Sigourney Weaver was in this movie. Her role, the 20 seconds of screentime that she got, could have been played by anyone.
Anyway...I'd give it a couple stars...it wasn't as bad as I'd heard, but wasn't great either. |
