 We finally got around to watching Hero last night.
I don't really have a context for reviewing the movie as I'm not a big fan-geek of Chinese martial arts flix. So you'll have to go elsewhere for all the fanboy ranting and raving about this movie. I suppose it's probably like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, but I haven't seen that movie either. It was somewhat like The Bride with White Hair, which is a great movie that I have actually seen. (By the way, any movie where the main character kills people with her hair is alright by me.)
So, because I'm so uneducated about this genre, my only review of Hero is that it's a beautiful movie with really cool stylized marial arts fight scenes. It's told almost entirely in flashbacks, once from the Hero's point of view, and again from the King's point of view. Basically, the Hero lays out his tale, which the King doesn't believe, so the King tells the Hero what he thinks really happened. And there is much fighting. |
