 ...there was once upon a time, a wonderful show on TV called "The Storyteller."
It was a Jim Henson production, and was a collection of Old World fairy tails that hadn't been Disney-fied. There's love and loss and life and death in here, all rendered with wonderful artistry. The costumes, makeup, and muppet-effects are as wonderful as the stories. And John Hurt, who plays the Storyteller does a superb job.
If you're never seen it, you're missing out. Buy a copy for a young person you know, as an excuse to watch it if you need too. I got my copy for Christmas.
Productions like this and The Dark Crystal (and Yoda) were what made me want to become a muppeteer when I grew up. Not a fireman, not a doctor...a muppeteer. Now most of those jobs are gone in favor of much less interesting, and less life-like CGI. So, I became a chemist instead. (And obvious choice, no?) |
