I'm one sleepy blogger.
If you've been reading the blogs of the various folks who attended GB:NYC2, you're probably sick of hearing what a great time it was. If so, join me tomorrow where I promise I won't mention it at all. Quick summary: ate too much, drank too much, smoked too much, got way too little sleep, saw priceless works of art, ate pancreas, met cool people.
In addition to my observation in Saturday's post that gay bloggers rock, may I, just for a moment, make a completely shallow observation and also say that gay bloggers are total hotties? They are. There. All done. Thanks for your indulgance.
We had a great time on Friday. I was, frankly, a little anxious about meeting some of these folks. Yeah, it was the whole silly, "What will these New Yorkers think? Will they be snooty, in real life?" kind of a thing. My concerns were completely without basis in reality, as everyone was amazingly friendly. Apparently very friendy. We left too early and missed the cockring comparisons and groping that went on later in the evening, alas. We midwesterners are used to going to bed at sundown in order to get up for the early morning barn raisings. As I mentioned in my last post, we forgot our camera, but even if we'd had it, we wouldn't have done as a good a job documenting the festivities as Aaron, so go look at his pictures. (Given the quality of his work, I'm shocked that Aaron can take such wonderful pictures "on the fly." He just points his camera, and good things happen. It's pretty amazing, really.)
Saturday morning, we woke up and went to the Village to grab some breakfast and nurse my gin-induced hangover. We met up with our friends Lee and Steve (non-bloggers, but cool anyway) and went to the MOMA. I enjoyed most of what I saw, though I have to admit some modern sculpture sort of pisses me off. For example, a piece of string tied between a wall and the floor? That's art? It seemed like just something installed to make vacuuming the gallery more annoying. Though I did like that better than the "Pencil circle on a wall" that I saw in the Toronto art museum.
Otherwise though, the museum experience was great.
Then it was off to Chelsea to take in some Queer Cinema. I know what you're thinking, "You went all the way to NYC, and watched a movie?" Well, yes we did. But we don't really get much queer cinema in the hinterlands, so we were, in fact, doing something in NYC that we couldn't do in Ann Arbor. I'll post a movie review later.
Saturday night we joined some of the bloggers at the Eagle. I had a great time chatting with palochi about television science fiction and our mutual struggles of being a Scorpio in a world filled with people who just won't do what we tell them to. Among the many highlights of the evening was running into an old friend from Ann Arbor, who was Brian's former roommate. Brian however, was no where to be found at that moment, so Glenn, Chris, Scott, and I played "Scooby-Doo" and split up, searching the bar for my missing husband. (Everyone, of course, wanted to be Velma.) In true Scooby-Doo fashion, in my part of the search, I'm pretty sure I saw Old Mister Potter attempting to scare away the kids with his buttless chaps -- ah, the Eagle.
Sunday. First, more brunch. Then Brian and I did some shopping in SoHo to find a Mother's Day present for my Mother-Out-Law. Then we wandered over to meet more bloggers at the Dugout. Let me just say that joe.my.god is as funny in real life as he is on the screen. I hope he eventually posts some of the stories he told me on his blog. I also got to hang out more with Aaron who has gone from being my fairy blog-daddy to my blog-idol. Or just my idol.
Now we're back home, finishing up the laundry, petting our cats (who are acting like they've never seen a human being before), and relaxing on the porch.
My only regret? That there isn't another GB:NYC next weekend.
Oh, and by the way, did I mention that gay bloggers are hotties? |
