If only conservatives really believed what they say they believe:
If conservatives really believed in getting government out of people's lives, they wouldn't be trying to keep a dead woman alive.
If conservatives really believed in getting government out of people's lives, they wouldn't be interfering in other people's marriages.
If conservatives really believed in getting government out of people's lives, they wouldn't support sodomy laws.
If conservatives really believed in getting government out of people's lives, they wouldn't be stealing my domestic partnership benefits.
If conservatives really believed in what they say they believe in, I'd likely be a conservative. Ah...if only.
The Terri Schiavo case is the most gruesome, sick, twisted, and perverted thing I've heard in a long time. Everything that can be said has been said.
In any event, go out and find a good lawyer and craft and make sure someone you trust has Medical Power of Attorney. Do it now. Don't put it off.
While you're at it, whether you're single or partnered, gay or straight, make sure you have your estate planning in order. If you're straight, it will, of course, cost less to get things done than if you're gay. However, in any case, get it done. Now. Call some friends and get a recommendation for a good estate attorney. Now. Email them this second while you're thinking about it, for a list of names. It isn't that expensive and it is apparently more necessary than any of us thought to keep the government from attempting to keep your corpse alive.
Really, this Terri Shaivo thing is right out of some twisted comic book plot. |
