Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm really not much of a romantic. I know Valentine's Day is just a Hallmark holiday, but I don't want to be a prick either and ignore the holiday. So I feel like I should send a Valentine to my beau. In fact, I originally thought I'd send one an hour all day. Isn't that romantic? Not having the romantic gene, I couldn't tell, so I asked a friend:

alan: I was gonna send electronic valentine's day cards to brian all day. Amusing or just annoying?
Christian: I dunno. I'm not Brian.
alan: Would you find it amusing or just annoying?
Christian: after about five, I would probably find it annoying. If you can't get the sentiment right the first time, why harass him further?

So I decided to nix the "carpet-bomb him with my love" idea.

However, this placed a much greater importance on finding just the right thing to say in the one card that I send. Maybe I was having a hard time because no words could properly express and encompass the massive hugeness of my love for him.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking. I thought that was a cop-out too.

alan: Damn...now I'm having Valentines Day writer's block. Too much pressure to get the sentiment right the first time so as not to annoy him further. How about, "I love you more than my iPod?" That's pretty touching right?
Christian: um....sure!

I wasn't too convinced, so I started looking for love quotes:

alan: Hmmmm...looking for love quotes to woo my beau.
alan: not workin
Christian: where? online?
alan: Yeah.
Christian: ahem.
Christian: why not actually write something yourself? That might work.
alan: Oh.
alan: That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Christian: yeah, after all, it's just a valentine's day card
alan: You mean like....express my feelings?
Christian: perhaps
alan: You're weird.
Christian: if you have any
alan: I have them!
Christian: lust is not a feeling
alan: oh. Well, then forget it.
alan: How about this:
Your hands lie open in the long fresh grass,-
The finger-points look through, like rosy blooms:
Your eyes smile peace. The pasture gleams and glooms
'Neath billowing skies that scatter and amass.
All round our nest far, as the eye can pass
Are golden kingcup fields with silver edge
Where the cow-parsley skirts the hawthorn-hedge
'Tis visible silence, still as the hour-glass.

Deep in the sun searched groves, a dragon-fly
Hangs, like a blue thread loosened from the sky:-
So this winged hour is dropt to us from above.
Oh! clasp we to our hearts, for deathless dower
This close-companioned inarticulate hour
When twofold silence was the song of love.
alan: How's that?
alan: Except I think I stole it from a card he sent me.
alan: *sigh*
Christian: i would go back to that "I love you more than my iPod"
