On to college....

OK...by popular demand and to quell the clamoring, here is Part Three of the series: "Events that Made Me Gay." (Ok...there was no demand, nor clamoring, but here it is anyway. You'll read it and you'll like it, dammit.)

Shortly after getting to college, I decided that it was time that I started dating girls. I was in a new place where no one knew me, so I figured that it was a great opportunity.

It's some sort of college law that you must date someone from your Freshman Orientation Group. No one knows why, we just know it's the law and we follow it. I should have dated Eric, who was, I'm guessing, actually in my "orientation group" as well as being in my Orientation Group. But, following tradition, I picked out one of the females of the litter and dated her.

There's not very much to do on Calvin's campus (other than pray), but we went to concerts, hung out at the coffee shop, and studied together. I even went so far as to attend Spanish Chapel to try to impress her. Calvin has Chapel every day. However, once a week, the language departments hold their own chapel services. I didn't -- and still don't -- speak a word of Spanish, even after 4 semesters of it, but I was trying to make an effort.

(By the way, as you click on these Calvin links, ask yourself, "Have I ever in my life seen a whiter bunch of people??" If you look closely you'll start to see that any minority students in the pictures are just the same 3 people over and over.)

Anyway, we went out for a few weeks. I even got to smooch her a couple times, which was much farther than I'd gotten in the past. So, at least she seemed into affection.

Until...

She gave me mono about 1 month into the semester, and stopped returning my phone calls. That pretty much ended my dating life for my Freshman year.

Stay tuned for Part Four of "Events That Made Me Gay."
