North Eastern France - Central Western Germany Trip Report - June 2003

Participants: Andrew, Gwen
Dates: 2003-06-02 to 2003-06-06

This trip was a car camping trip that we took during our holidays. We visited the Vosges Mountains in North Eastern France and also the Mosel Valley in Central Western Germany.

This was my first experience camping in Europe. There are a number of differences between this type of camping as compared to the camping that I have done in Canada. There are few areas of wilderness in Europe in the same sense that there is in Canada, especially in Western Europe. So, the camp grounds are all car camping areas located just on the edge of a small town, and most of the people who are camping are pulling a trailer (or caravan as they are referred to in Europe) or driving a camper van. These camp grounds have full facilities including hot water, showers and indoor toilets. There is usually a store, and often the local baker will drive his truck out to the camp ground each morning to sell his products there. Still, it is a fun and relatively inexpensive way to see Western Europe.
