Students

These are some questions parents frequently ask.

Q: Do only talented kids get A's?

A: Every student who completes every assignment will do just fine.

Q: How do you determine a grade?

A: Every project has 3 focus correction areas, 3 concepts or tasks that we're mastering. Students can check their work against exemplars to clarify the concepts. Students are also graded on participation and taking responsibility for cleanup and keeping track of their own work. I also grade on the care and craftsmanship they put into a piece.

Q: But I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. My kid can't either. Won't this keep him off the Honor Roll?

A: I teach students how to use rulers and other art making tools. I make modifications for students that need them. Assignments are broken into simple steps and explained visually, verbally and kinesthetically.

Q: What if our family goes on a trip?

A: I expect all projects to be made up. I am in early every morning before school and by appointment after school?

Q: How come  I never see any of the artwork my child does?

A: Middle school students  hate to carry anything home. It doesn't look cool. If you want to see the work, as them about it during the year. If all else fails, every child has a piece in the end of the year Fine Arts Night. Join us then and check out your child's work.
