Attention: Just a quick notice that there will not be a printed July Newsletter. We will be sending out postcards soon to those of you on the mailing list to let you know of some changes that we will be making. Keep looking to your mailbox and more info here soon.

NCB - Fall Bear Camp Weekend (Sep 7-9, 2007)

Registration will be limited, so please send in your form early. Register online and Pay via PayPal here. Please indicate when you register whether you need electricity for c/pap or another reason. A preliminary cabin assignment will be made which may be adjusted when you arrive. Fall Bear Camp registration confirmation with additional information will be sent to you upon reciept of your registration. Registration receipt deadline: August 15, 2007. No refunds will be available after this date.

Event fee: $75.00.

A valid MN State Park Vehicle permit is required. If you have an annual one that will work, or day permits are available at the park.

Interested in volunteering? They are looking for a few good men to help in the kitchen or clean the camp. If you work for four hours each day, you will have registration fees waived. Contact Mike if you're interested.

Stand Rock Bruinfest 2007 - BEAR RUN!

The Rainbow Valley Resort and Standrock Bruinfest committee have finalized plans for the "Third Annual Stand Rock Bruinfest" 2007. On Sept 14th - 16 bears will be descending on the Wisconsin Dells for fun, fur and frolic.

This event is being sponsored by the Four Lakes Bears of Madison, the Bear Club 4 Men and the Brew City Bears of Milwaukee. All three clubs are looking forward to seeing you there.

Thursday Sept 13
Pre-Fest Welcome Cook-Out (Bring something to grill) GRILL PROVIDED

Friday Morning, Sept 14
Trip to 4th Annual Wo-Aha-Wa Days Fall Festival
Meet at Hospitality Cabin - 10 a.m.
Lunch on your own

Friday Evening
*Welcome Party - 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. (sponsored by all three clubs)

Saturday Early Morning:
Continental Breakfast-Hospitality Cabin (included) 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.

Saturday Late Morning/Afternoon:
*Walk on the resort grounds and woods (free)
*Trash & Treasures Shopping (free- unless you buy)
*Kalahari Water park ($)
*Horseback Riding ($$?)
*Miniature Golf ($)
*Dells Attractions ($-$$-$$$?)
*Bare Bear Pool Party at Rainbow Valley Pool (Weather Permitting 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.)

Saturday Evening:
*Buffet Dinner (included but beverages are extra)
*Bear Contest and Show 10:00 p.m. - Captain Dix Bar (free)

Sunday:
*Hale & Hearty Farewell - Hospitality Cabin

There are many things to do this weekend in the dells. If none of the above interest you, you are free to roam far and wide to find something to your liking. Additionally you may choose to have an exotic drink in the bar or lounge by the clothing optional pool. Keep in mind, many cabins have large whirlpools that can keep you relaxed for hours.

Please contact Rainbow Valley Resort to make room accommodations as those are separate and up to you.

As of this notice our info has the following room rates. Please call Rainbow Valley Resort to confirm rates and make arrangements. (prices subject to change)

A Standard Suite is $ 79.00 per night.A Standard Suite has two double beds and a porch, deck or patio.A One Bedroom Cabin is $ 165.00 per night.A One Bedroom Cabin has king, queen, or two full sized beds, sofa sleeper, living room, whirlpool room, and private deck.

At this time the activities fee are as follows, $70 for the full weekend stay for nonmembers of the Bear Club 4 Men, Brew City Bears or the Four Lakes Bears, $60 for members of these groups, or with a possible option for Saturday participation only for $40 for everyone. A $10 late fee will be added after August 20, 2007. (again... this is provided on the registration form in the brochure)

In addition to the accommodations listed above, limited R.V. and tent camping sites are available this year. The cost is $25.00 per night and is only available to members in good standing of the Brew City Bears, Four Lakes Bears and Bear Club 4 Men. Please note that additional restrictions will apply to tent camping. Also, as the Rainbow Valley Resort is in a wooded area, open fires of any kind are prohibited. The prices listed above do not include tax or gratuity.

Please do not contact the Bear Club 4 Men, Brew City Bears, or Four Lakes Bears to make your accommodation arrangements or room reservations, as all of this is being strictly handled by the Rainbow Valley Resort. NOTE: You may exercise the option when you stay both Friday and Saturday nights to stay either Thursday, the night before the event, or Sunday, the night after the event free of charge.

YIPPEE.

Several years ago I listened to a radio show online. This was before radio was so ubiquitous online. Radio on the internet was still cutting edge. I found a show, well several shows, on gaybc.com.

It became my nightly friend. I listened to Charlie Dyer, Anthony Veneziano and of course John McMullen. I even went so far as to set up a monthly draft payment to help fund them. I couldn't give much but did what I could. Alas, the company went under and John and friends were left with a significant debt. I continued to give as I could but eventually had to cancel the draft.

I was happy to find out that John then moved on to Satellite radio. Although I was not able to subscribe, just knowing they were continuing was nice.

Then today... today I got an email from "A Bear's Life" Magazine. Seems JOHN and company are back. http://gaybc.com/

FABULOUS. I just sent John a note welcoming him home and thanking him for his past efforts.

At the end of April 2007, elections were held and current board members are passing on their paperwork and their wisdom to the new folks as this newsletter is being passed on to you. So, while you are looking around the space and noticing a few little change that’s why. Thank you to the former board (who are mostly the present board, but in different positions). I especially wold like to thank Michael and Donovan for the work they did and the work they are doing for this club. Some new issues and ideas that the Four Lake Bears are going to be focusing on over the next few months are the membership part of the club. Posing questions like “Is official membership needed?”, exploration of a true e-newsletter, and continuing to flesh out our social opportunities within the club and with other clubs. For instance, planning is already underway for the annual Stand Rock Bruinfest in September. Please drop by for the Thursday night coffee, join us for dinner, and/or visit the website and drop us an email and let us know what you think.
