Before I started this project, there was a gradual slope from the lawn up to the top of this small hill. I had to lower the lawn area, especially on the right side of this picture. I dug out the sod, removed sand, and then replaced the sod.

This is the sort of mess I had on my lawn for a couple of months while I was looking for rocks and slowly trying to fit them together. The cool rock near the front isn't in the wall, it's alone in the garden closer to the house.

This is the completed wall. The rock from the last picture is on the bottom of this picture. That's my first Japanese maple.

The tree on the left is a Pagoda dogwood. That's a cimicifuga growing underneath it.

These are some of the larger rocks. This part of the wall took the longest to build. I spent several days building and rebuilding this part. It wasn't much fun, since I had to roll the big rocks into place. The sod was removed in front of the wall, so a few times the rocks fell into the hole and had to be rolled around to the right side and up the hill to be placed from the top.

Here's what we see from our bedroom window.
