How to with QuickTime Pro:
Aim:
We will work with an existing movie that has been shot and edited. From iMovie we can make a ready-to-go 3gpp file.
What will you need:
Hardware: G3 - G4 - G5 Mac.
Software: QuickTime Pro. You will need to buy a copy, if you don't have a licence - click here for more info.
1. First of all open up a file in QuickTime Pro. Applications > QuickTime Player
- Tip: a short cut to Applications folder when in the finder is to press "Shift + Apple key + A"
2. Now well will export (or in technical terms transcode) the file by going to File > Export
- Tip: a short cut to is to press "Apple key + E"

3. You will then see a new window pop up, if you Export: > Movie to 3G > then click "Options..."

4. Now we can fine-tune our movie to play over the internet for GPRS and 3G phones. Under the Video tab the settings are as follows:
Note: For Audio users ignore this part, as if you have opened up your audio file in QuickTime Pro this section will be greyed out.
- Video: optional mpeg-4 or H.263
- Date rate: 20 to about 25 kbits / second if you want your movie to work on GPRS and 3G phones.
- Frames per second: 8-15 my preferred rate is 8 FPS
- Key frame every: your discretion
- Re-synch markers: tick - Adds re-sync markers inside the video frames to help with loss recovery when streaming.

5. Under the Audio tab, the settings are as follows:
- Audio: AMR-NB (Speech)
- Data Rate: 4.72 kbps note: if your creating audio only files then 12.2 kbps
- Channels: Mono
- Frames per sample: 5
- Silence detection: tick - Available only with AMR audio, this option detects audio portions with low signal levels and adjusts the data rate of the output accordingly.

6. The last tab we will look at is the Streaming tab, where we will hint our movie for streaming:
- Enable streaming: tick
- Maximum packet size: 380 up to 480 bytes
- Maximum packet duration: 100 msec
- Optimise for server: tick - helps the server to process the file faster, but increases the file size.

7. Now you can click "OK" then name your new file and save it, ready to be put up on your streaming server or on to your phone.
